Two people in baseball familiar with the Nationals' plans told the Associated Press that Jim Riggleman will be the team's manager next season.

Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because no official announcement has been made. The team is planning a news conference for Thursday.

The former Padres and Cubs manager was promoted from bench coach to interim manager in July, replacing fired manager Manny Acta. The Nationals went 33-42 under Riggleman.

•Shortstop Jimmy Rollins and outfielder Shane Victorino of the NL champion Phillies were awarded NL Gold Gloves. Other winners included two Cardinals (catcher Yadier Molina, pitcher Adam Wainwright), two Dodgers (second baseman Orlando Hudson, outfielder Matt Kemp), Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, and Astros outfielder Michael Bourn.

Ken Griffey Jr. and the Mariners agreed to another one-year contract. ... Catcher Jason Varitek exercised his $3 million option to stay with the Red Sox, choosing to remain with the team as a backup to Victor Martinez rather than become a free agent. … Fired Dodgers chief executive Jamie McCourt denied an extramarital affair.
