Atholton Upsets Mt. Hebron In 3a East

Christian Villarroel scored the game-winner on a penalty kick eight minutes into the second half as host Atholton upset No. 12 Mount Hebron, 1-0, in a Class 3A East Regional final Tuesday.

A trip inside the box on Villarroel, who was attacking the goal from the left, set up the game-winner.

The Raiders (10-5) face Hereford, a 3-2 winner over No. 15 Towson, in Saturday's state semifinal at 5 p.m. at CCBC-Essex.

Atholton last won the state title in 2004.

No. 4 Fallston 3, Parkside 1: : Mike Antinozzi, Wade Baker and Matt Hamilton each scored to lift the visiting Cougars (16-1-1), who were tied 1-1 at halftime, over the Rams (15-2-1) in Class 2A East. The Cougars face Dundalk in Friday's state semifinal at Washington College at 7 p.m.

Girls

No. 6 Reservoir 2, River Hill 1: : Kelsey Reiff scored the winning goal with 30 minutes left as the host Gators (14-3-1) beat the Hawks (12-4-1) in Class 3A East. Reservoir faces No. 13 Hereford, a 3-2 winner in double overtime over Catonsville, in Saturday's state semifinal at 2:30 p.m.

No. 15 Fallston 1, Parkside 0: : Amanda Zamora scored from 20 yards out 1:12 into the second half to lift the visiting Cougars (12-6) over the Rams (12-2) in the Class 2A East regional final.

Fallston faces Eastern Tech in Friday's state semifinal at Harford Tech at 5 p.m.

Loch Raven 4, Sparrows Point 3: : Sarah Krejcik had three goals to power the host Raiders (12-4-1) past the Pointers in Class 1A South. Loch Raven faces Mountain Ridge in the state semifinal Saturday at noon at North County.
