Football Team's 69-28 Defeat Of Southern Is 20th Straight Win Over County Opponents

The No. 1 Arundel football team, led by quarterback Billy Cosh, clinched the Anne Arundel County title with its 69-28 win over Southern on Friday.

The victory was the Wildcats' 20th straight over a county opponent.

Cosh, who is headed to Kansas State next year, was 33-for-44 for 380 yards and six touchdowns. He set a new state mark for most passing yards with 6,878.

Cosh now has 11 state passing records.

R.J. Harris caught three touchdown passes to set a single-season Maryland public school record with 24 receiving touchdowns for the Wildcats (10-0). Harris finished with 12 receptions for 144 yards.

No. 3 River Hill 41, Centennial 21: : Nick Bonhag had two touchdowns, one each rushing and passing, and the visiting Hawks (10-0) beat the Eagles (4-5) for their 38th straight win. River Hill clinched its seventh Howard County championship last week. The Hawks have a 43-game winning streak against Howard County opponents and their fourth straight undefeated season.

No. 6 Joppatowne 28, C. Milton Wright 7: : Chris Wright had six rushes for 51 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting Mariners (10-0) finished an undefeated season and got their 17th straight win against a Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference opponent. Joppatowne secured the UCBAC championship with a 35-0 win over Havre de Grace on Oct. 30.

No. 7 Hereford 28, Perry Hall 8: : David Wood had eight rushes for 86 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting Bulls (8-1) beat the Gators (5-5).

No. 8 Boys' Latin 40, St. Paul's 27: : Patrick Steele rushed for 203 yards and had five touchdowns as the visiting Lakers (10-0, 9-0 MIAA B Conference) completed their first undefeated season since 1977. Boys' Latin secured a spot in the B Conference championship game two weeks ago with a 20-0 win over Archbishop Spalding.

Boys' Latin faces Spalding for the B Conference championship at 1 p.m. Nov. 14 at Mount St. Joseph.

No. 14 Archbishop Spalding 55, St. John's-Catholic Prep 20: : Scott Sharik had 49 yards on five carries and three touchdowns to power the Cavaliers (9-1) past the Vikings (2-8).

Patterson 43, Northwestern 0: : Latrell Suggs had two rushing touchdowns, and the visiting Clippers (8-2) qualified for the Class 4A North regional playoffs.

Boys soccer

No. 4 Fallston 4, Bel Air 0: : Mike Antinozzi had a hat trick to power the host Cougars (15-1) past the Bobcats (10-3-4) in a Class 2A East regional semifinal.

Towson 1, Aberdeen 0: : Matt Ross scored the game-winner on a penalty kick with six minutes left in the game as the visiting Generals (9-4-1) beat the Eagles (11-3) in a Class 3A North regional semifinal.

The Generals travel to face Hereford, a 4-1 winner over C.M. Wright, Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Girls soccer

No. 6 Reservoir 2, Wilde Lake 0: : Kelsey Reiff scored twice in the second half to lead the host Gators (13-3-1) past the Wildecats in Class 3A East regional semifinal. Reservoir hosts River Hill in Tuesday's regional final at 5 p.m.

No. 7 Catonsville 3, Towson 0: : Dani Pulliam had a goal and two assists to power the visiting Comets (13-2-1) past the Generals in Class 3A North. Catonsville faces Hereford on Tuesday.

No. 9 Glenelg 5, Patuxent 1: : Beverly Kirshe had two goals and an assist to lift the visiting Gladiators over the Panthers in Class 2A South.
