At 106, Doctor Was The Oldest Alumnus Of The Maryland School Of Medicine And Was Honored For His Humanity

She said her father considered himself at age 106 a "lively person" who was still interested in other people and still able to see the humorous side of life.

"When he was in Sinai for the last time, the doctor who came in to see him was wearing a mask. He asked my father, 'How are you?' He looked at the doctor and said, 'Obviously, better than you.' "

Dr. Schenker had been a member of Beth Jacob Congregation for 100 years, family members said.

In the 2008 interview with The Jewish Times, Dr. Schenker explained his philosophy of living.

"Everybody should treat each other the same and with respect, regardless of who they are," he said. "Everyone was created equally and therefore should be treated equally. People of all ages should be nice to each other and respect one another."

Dr. Schenker's wife of 75 years, the former Marion Mazur, died in 2007.

Services were Tuesday.

Also surviving is another daughter, Z. Lois Madow of Pikesville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
