Today's state games

Morgan State (5-1)

at Delaware State (1-5)

Time: 1 p.m.

Radio: 88.9 FM

Series record: Morgan leads 30-22

Last meeting: Morgan won, 20-3, on Oct. 25, 2008

What's at stake: The Bears may be 5-1, but they've yet to be challenged. The teams Morgan has played are 10-26 overall, and today marks the end of that cushy schedule. The last four games will test Morgan's mettle in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, but for now, figure the Bears to beat Delaware State. The Hornets, fresh off a 63-6 licking by Michigan, have a flimsy defense that is allowing 495 yards per game. That's good news for Morgan, which has yet to break out of its offensive doldrums. Despite the heady record -- good for a first-place tie in the MEAC -- the Bears are averaging just 12 points and have been outscored for the season. Nationally, Morgan ranks 110th in scoring. Delaware State is No. 109.

Key matchup: Morgan RB Devan James vs. the Delaware State defense. James, the Bears' star senior runner who was hobbled earlier by injuries, is returning to form after gaining a season-high 103 yards in Morgan?s victory over Howard last week.

Players to watch: Morgan: P Nicholas Adams. The redshirt freshman, who weighs 245 pounds, averaged 38.5 yards on 11 punts last week and kept Howard hemmed in. Delaware State: WR Darius Jackson. A sophomore, he has 21 receptions and has caught at least one pass in seven straight games.

Towson (2-4)

at Northeastern (0-6)

Time: 1 p.m.

Radio: 1570 AM

Series record: Northeastern leads 6-3

Last meeting: Northeastern won, 35-17, on Oct. 4, 2008

What's at stake: Bragging rights as the leakiest team in the Colonial Athletic Association. In three of its losses, Towson has surrendered 47, 49 and 57 points; Northeastern has allowed 42, 54 and 56. The Huskies are winless in their past 13 games, dating to 2008, when they defeated - who else-- Towson. Moreover, Northeastern has beaten Towson three consecutive seasons and has never lost to the Tigers at home. Towson travels to Boston minus QB Peter Athens, its freshman starter who's out for the season after suffering a knee injury in last week's 49-21 loss to Delaware. Two weeks ago, Towson defeated Rhode Island for its first road victory in two years. (The previous win, in 2007, was at Morgan State, five miles down the road.)

Key matchup: Towson QB Tommy Chroniger vs. the Northeastern defense. Lose one freshman and replace him with another. Chroniger, the Tigers' backup quarterback from Crofton, ran for 97 yards last week and scored on a 71-yard jaunt; it was his first college touchdown.

Players to watch: Towson: LB Danzel White, a redshirt freshman, ranks fourth in the CAA with 57 tackles. Northeastern: WR Jordan Batts, a freshman, has caught 34 passes for 316 yards and four TDs.
