'Evening with Brooks' adds 1970 World Series foe Carbo

Bernie Carbo, a member of the Cincinnati Reds team that played the Orioles in the 1970 World Series, has joined the lineup of participants at 'An Evening with Brooks,' a tribute to Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Carbo was involved in the Series' most controversial play. In the sixth inning, he tried to score from third base on pinch hitter Ty Cline's chopper in front of home plate. Orioles catcher Elrod Hendricks grabbed the ball and lunged backward toward Carbo, applying the tag with his empty glove; the ball was in his throwing hand. Plate umpire Ken Burkhart was out of position on the play and called Carbo out. The Reds did not score that inning, and Robinson put the Orioles ahead to stay with a solo home run in the seventh. Tickets are available until Monday evening by calling 410-727-1539, ext. 3033, or at BabeRuth- Museum.com.

INDOOR FOOTBALL: Quarterback Matt Folke and linebacker Vince Tiberi re-signed with the Mariners for the 2010 season.
