UMBC squanders 2-goal lead, loses to Longwood in OT

UMBC (10-3-0) surrendered a two-goal lead and fell, 3-2, in overtime to visiting Longwood (3-9-2) in miserable conditions. Lancers sophomore midfielder Chris Saul scored 3:27 into the first overtime period for the victory. Forwards Andrew Bulls (McDonogh) and Levi Houapeu scored in the 24th and 29th minutes, respectively, for the Retrievers. Bulls, who entered last week as the nation's leading scorer, got his 15th goal of the season. Longwood scored in the 36th minute and 38th minute.

Towson:: Because of inclement weather, the game against UNC Wilmington, scheduled for today, has been moved to Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on the campus of Loyola University. The game will be played at 4 p.m.

Midshipmen suffer first loss in Patriot League since 2006

Senior forward Christa Matlack scored a pair of first-half goals to lift host Bucknell (8-6-1, 3-1-0) to a 3-1 victory over Navy (11-3-2, 2-1-1), which had been unbeaten in its previous four games. The setback was the Midshipmen's first in Patriot League play in 17 matches, dating to Oct. 29, 2006, against Bucknell in Annapolis. "We got off to a slow start, and they really put us on our heels early with two quick goals," Navy coach Carin Gabarra said.

Not for Silver finishes 2nd; Pakulak to punt for Redskins

Two Laurel Park-based runners collected checks in out-of-town graded stakes races Saturday afternoon. Not for Silver, from Mike Trombetta's barn, finished second at odds of 7-1 in the Grade III Perryville Stakes at Keeneland. The son of Not For Love has finished first or second in seven of 10 career starts. Heros Reward finished fifth in the Grade II Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine. He was beaten by less than three lengths and was trained by Dale Capuano. The son of Partner's Hero earned $14,448 to boost his career total to $1,069,746. The 7-year-old is expected to compete in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita Park Park on Nov. 7.

Redskins: : For the second straight week, Washington has promoted punter Glenn Pakulak from the practice squad to the active roster because of Hunter Smith's groin injury. Pakulak was the punter and holder last week against the Panthers and is set to handle those duties again today against the Chiefs. The Redskins released defensive end Renaldo Wynn to make room for Pakulak.

United: : Luciano Emilio scored in the first half and host D.C. kept its Major League Soccer playoff hopes alive with a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew. Steve Cronin earned a shutout in his first start for United (9-8-12), which tied Toronto and New England for the eighth and final playoff spot with 39 points.
