Three Things That Need To Go Right

October 16, 2009|By Jamison Hensley

1 Defend the run. Shut down the Vikings' running lanes. The Ravens allowed their first 100-yard rusher since 2006 because they gave too many creases to the Bengals' Cedric Benson. This time, if there is a hole, Minnesota's Adrian Peterson will exploit it for a touchdown.

2 Stop J. Allen. Block defensive end Jared Allen. Whether it's Jared Gaither returning from a neck injury or rookie Michael Oher making his second start at left tackle, someone needs to slow Allen. Since 2004, he has the most sacks in the NFL with 64.

3 Convert third downs. The Ravens were a season-worst 3-for-11 on third downs Sunday, one of the main reasons they controlled the ball for just 25 minutes. The Vikings rank seventh in stopping offenses on third downs.
