Man's tattoos help lead police to arrest in robbery

An Edgewood man's penchant for tattoos helped police identify and arrest him in the armed robbery this week of a Harford County convenience store, according to authorities. Lance Edward Shepherd, 26, has been charged with armed robbery, assault and theft and was being held at the Harford County Detention Center in lieu of $300,000 bail. A knife used during the robbery at the Edgewood convenience store Tuesday caused slight injuries to a clerk, Maryland State Police said. While reviewing a surveillance tape of the robbery, police noted that, while the suspect had covered his face with a white T-shirt, he left his tattooed arms exposed. Investigators circulated fliers with a photo of the suspect, and a tip led to an Edgewood tattoo parlor, where police found Shepherd getting more tattoos. Police said they matched tattoos in the surveillance photos to those on the suspect's body.
