Football: : Johns Hopkins strong safety Colin Wixted, a senior, has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week. ... Bowie State junior Terence Peete was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Back of the Week, and teammate Emmanuel Yeager, a quarterback, was named the CIAA's Rookie of the Week. ... Frostburg State sophomore quarterback Josh Volpe was selected as the Atlantic Central Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week; teammate Christian Cook (Calvert Hall), a wide receiver, was the ACFC's Rookie of the Week.

Money For Love wins in upset on turf at Laurel Park

Money For Love, a 4-year-old gelding running for a $7,500 claiming tag, was the surprise winner on the turf in the fifth race at Laurel Park. He had lost 12 straight races since winning 367 days ago. The son of Not For Love, with apprentice jockey Luis Batista, drew off to win by two lengths. The Robin Graham trainee paid $260.60. The exacta with 15-1 shot Power in Truth paid $3,038 and the triple with Casi Cielo on the bottom was worth $36,063.
