United's Quaranta out 4-6 months with foot injury

D.C. United midfielder Santino Quaranta (Archbishop Curley) will be sidelined four to six months with a foot injury. The team said Monday that Quaranta broke a bone in his left foot during practice Friday. He'll have surgery today in Baltimore. He had a similar injury in his right foot in 2006. Quaranta finishes the season with two goals and six assists in 22 games. United also announced the acquisition of goalkeeper Steve Cronin on loan from the lower-division Portland Timbers. The club received special approval for the addition after No. 1 goalkeeper Josh Wicks was hurt in a game last month.

Calvert Hall's Davis selected Ravens Coach of the Week

Calvert Hall coach Donald Davis has been named Ravens High School Coach of the Week after a 21-12 upset of Gilman. It was the Cardinals' first victory against the Greyhounds since 2003. Calvert Hall (5-2) rushed for more than 250 yards, forced a fumble, interception and foiled two two-point conversion attempts. Davis, a 1996 Calvert Hall graduate, is in his third year as head coach of the Cardinals and his ninth year of coaching overall.

Towson's Mangione named CAA Player of the Week

Towson junior midfielder Marco Mangione (Calvert Hall), who scored three of the Tigers' four goals in 2-1 soccer victories over No. 23 George Mason and No. 20 Old Dominion last week, was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Week. ... Loyola senior Jamie Darvill was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after he scored four goals in two games.
