Arundel's Cosh Sets Td Record In Rout

He Breaks State Mark With 81st Scoring Pass

Arundel quarterback Billy Cosh needed 54 seconds to tie the Maryland public school record of 80 career touchdown passes and 4:01 to break it Friday night.

Cosh led the No. 3 Wildcats (6-0) to a 75-19 rout of visiting Glen Burnie.

He finished the night with seven touchdowns, and 85 for his career, on 16 of 19 passing for 267 yards. He had one carry for 8 yards. Cosh left the game after 1 1/2 quarters.

The previous mark for touchdown passes was held by Sherwood's Deontay Twymann and Friendly's Joe Haden, who both set it during the 2006 state finals.

Cosh has set eight state public school records. Friday's was his first career record. Earlier this month, he broke the Anne Arundel County career passing touchdowns record of 71 set by North County's Mike Pfisterer in 2000.

Cosh connected with Ronnie Harris twice on passes of 33 and 18 yards for a 14-0 Wildcats lead. The first touchdown came 15 seconds into the game. Arundel led 40-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Cosh hit Jeffrey Taylor with a 5-yard pass with 7:59 left in the first quarter to break the record. He found Harris three times for touchdowns and Taylor twice.

Arundel outscored Glen Burnie 28-6 in the second quarter. The Wildcats totaled 496 offensive yards, 383 passing, to the Bobcats' 242.

No. 4 River Hill 35, Glenelg 0: : Harry McLaughlin had two touchdown runs and Amir Shahegh went 5-for-5 on point-after-attempts as the visiting Hawks (6-0) beat the Gladiators (5-1). River Hill has won its 34th straight game dating back three years.

No. 6 Joppatowne 43, Bel Air 7: : Tevin Taylor had two touchdowns and Dominic Harper threw a touchdown pass and caught another as the host Mariners (6-0) beat the Bobcats.

Taylor caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Harper in the first quarter and rushed 10 yards for a touchdown in the fourth. Harper caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from Joel Scott to start the scoring.

Boys soccer

No. 1 Mount St. Joseph 4, John Carroll 1:: Senior All-Metro center midfielder Geaton Caltabiano scored three times and Dave Arnold added a goal to give the visiting Gaels (8-3-1) the victory over the Patriots (0-6). Arnold and Colin Borum had assists.

No. 2 McDonogh 3, Archbishop Spalding 0:: Devin Callanan scored two goals and Benga Makinde added another as the Eagles (14-1) defeated the visiting Cavaliers (0-5). It was McDonogh's 11th shutout this season.

No. 10 Gilman 2, No. 14 Archbishop Curley 1: : Joe Cahalan scored the game-winner on a pass from Anthony Kim with 20 minutes left to lift the host Greyhounds (10-4-1) over the Friars (5-5-3).

Girls soccer

No. 10 Mercy 2, No. 12 Fallston 0:: Lexi Neidoba scored on a penalty kick three minutes into the game and Alexis Prior-Brown scored with 38 seconds left in the second half to lift the visiting Magic (5-3-3) over the Cougars (6-5).

Field hockey

No. 2 Garrison Forest 3, Severn 1: : Cody Magness scored the first two goals, the first 45 seconds into the game, to lead the host Grizzlies (12-1-2).
