Md. Czar Marks Orders To Deliver The Limited Supply Of Vaccine To Those Who Need It Most

Reed and the others were already back to the lists. Washington. Allegany. Arundel. Caroline. Cecil. Dorchester. Frederick. Carroll. It was close to 5 p.m. and there were 10,000 doses left. About 15 minutes into the second pass through the lists, the process was halted so Reed could take a call from Maryland Health Secretary John M. Colmers, who wanted an update.

It was closing in on 5:30 p.m. when Reed asked Sharpe-Scott to add up the numbers: 25,300 doses going to 56 providers.

"We use it all?" she asked.

"Every drop," Reed said.

By Tuesday afternoon, Reed still had not received a new allotment of swine flu vaccine to dole out. But he, his team and his blue highlighter were ready. Flu by the numbers
