Ferrara, Hartsfield honored; Terps-UVa. game time set
Maryland freshmen Nick Ferrara and Demetrius Hartsfield were voted co-Specialist of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, by the Atlantic Coast Conference for their play in Saturday's 24-21 win over Clemson. Ferrara handled kickoffs and place-kicks as usual and filled in at punter, averaging 43.2 yards. Hartsfield, who made 10 tackles, forced and recovered a fumble in the final minute to preserve the victory.
Terps schedule: : Kickoff for Maryland's homecoming game against Virginia on Oct. 17 will be at 4 p.m., the ACC announced. The game will be on ESPNU.
Morgan State: : Senior linebacker George Howard was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Kemar Scarlett named Special Teams Player of the Week for their play Saturday in a 24-13 win against Bethune-Cookman. Howard, who shared the honor the previous two weeks, recorded a game-high 17 tackles. He ranks No. 1 in total tackles (60) in the Football Championship Subdivision. Scarlett made a 48-yard field goal.

Dunbar's Smith named Ravens Coach of the Week
Dunbar's Lawrence Smith was named Ravens High School Coach of the Week after the Poets (4-1) defeated City, 22-0, on Friday.
Golf: : Lisa Schlesinger of Laytonsville and Jane Fitzgerald of Kensington won first-round matches in the U.S.Women's Mid-Am championship at Ocala, Fla. Schlesinger defeated Kendra Vallone of San Dimas, Calif., 4 and 2, and Fitzgerald topped Tara Joy-Connelly of Pembroke, Mass., 2-and-1. ... Rain forced postponement of the first round of the U.S. Mid-Amateur in Kiawah Island, S.C.
