No. 14 Atholton's Kyle Schmitt was named Ravens High School Coach of the Week for the third week of the 2009 season. Schmitt, the rookie coach of the Raiders, led his team to a 34-30 victory over rival Wilde Lake on Saturday. Atholton (4-0) already has more wins than it had all last season, when the team finished 3-7. Wilde Lake was a state finalist in each of the past two years. The Raiders had defeated the Wildecats only three times in the past 30 years. Schmitt was a starting center for the University of Maryland and played on the offensive line with the Minnesota Vikings (2005) and the Arizona Cardinals (2006) during the NFL preseason. He also had stints in NFL Europe. Before coming to Atholton, he was a graduate assistant at Maryland. A panel of area high school experts selects the Ravens High School Coach of the Week.

Indoor football: : Linebacker Brian Bradford, a former Towson University standout, has agreed to return to the Mariners in 2010.
