Homicide detectives said he had been targeted by the three suspects and murdered in the course of a robbery, and the medical examiner determined that he had been strangled.

During the robbery, police said, Nguyen put his arm around the victim's neck, knocked him out of his wheelchair and choked him. The other defendants ransacked the apartment and took jewelry, a computer, an iPod and other property, police said.

The three suspects were arrested Thursday. On Friday, they were taken before a court commissioner and charged with first-degree murder.

They were being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
