Q: : What is the key to being a good leader?
A: : A great leader is someone who can lead without necessarily being personally involved, not too attached but has the best interest of everyone, the broad scope. And also a great leader is someone who has the ability to inspire people to act. I think that is the key part of a great leader.
Q: : What do you enjoy most about being class president?
A: : I really like bringing the whole class together. We have committee meetings and encourage everyone to get involved. It's nice to see how everyone's ideas - from different social groups - all come together and we can all make something that everyone really enjoys happen when we work together on projects or fundraisers.
Q: : What is the key to being a successful public speaker?
A: : My first big public speaking moment was when I ran for class president, and I was really nervous about it because I didn't think I was that great of a speaker. But the more you practice, the better you get at it. It can be really hard to get your confidence up, but then once you do you just have to believe in yourself, and if you like what you're saying, it will present better.
Q: : What was the best day of your life?
A: : My club team was playing in this tournament where if you won, SKF - which is a Swedish bearing company - would sponsor that team to go to a tournament in Sweden called the Gothia Cup. I unfortunately couldn't play because I was still out with my ACL injury, but I was with my team supporting them. We made it to the finals, and there was five minutes left when my friend scored a goal. We were like, "We are going to Sweden!" The game finished and we won, 1-0, and everyone was so happy. I had never been that happy in my life. We were like 'We're going to Sweden ... for free ... to play soccer!' I was able to get back and play by that time, so I was so excited.
Q: : What's the best advice you've ever received?
A: : For goalkeeping, it's definitely learning and letting it go. There's going to be times when you have a bad day or you let in a goal where you say, 'I should have had that.' But you have to learn from it, notice what you did wrong and fix it, and then let it go because if you dwell on it, it's just going to affect your play for the rest of the game.
