Bird hike in Edgewater
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater offers a chance for a look at the seasonally changing birds and migrants that visit the center each year. The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday and is designed for beginning and intermediate bird watchers. $5 per person. Call 443-482-2300 for directions and more information.
Lecture
Samuel Kutler will deliver a lecture titled "Poetry and Mathematics" at 8:15 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on the campus of St. John's College, 600 College Ave. in Annapolis.

Runners and walkers
The "Moving Around the World" 5K Run and Walk, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Annapolis and the Rotaract Club of Annapolis, needs sponsors, runners and walkers.
The event takes place Oct. 25 and begins at Severn High School. Race packet pickup and registration are from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Race begins at 8:30 a.m.
The course is mostly flat, leaving from the school, then south on the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail and back. Wheels, headsets, pets and baby joggers are not allowed.
Advance registration is $25, $30 day of the race. No refunds.

Raffle
The YWCA Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is holding a $50,000 "Make Dreams Come True" cash raffle. All proceeds will benefit Arden House, a domestic violence safe shelter and the programs of the YWCA.
Tickets cost $100 and can be purchased online at annapolisywca.org.
Winning tickets will be drawn at the YWCA Disco Magic Gala on Nov. 6 at the Sheraton Annapolis. Winners need not be present.

Barbershop chorus auditions
