Baltimore County officials will kick off a daylong observance of the Battle of North Point at noon Sunday in Fort Howard Park. Historians consider the battle, which took place on Sept. 12, 1814, pivotal to America's victory over the British in the War of 1812. The Dundalk Patapsco Neck Historical Society and Museum has organized the patriotic celebration, which will include battle re-enactments to show how county residents and militia repelled a British invasion fleet and a sea bombardment. The event, which runs from noon to 5 p.m., also includes live history demonstrations, interpretive displays, food vendors, children's activities and more. Pets are not permitted because of the loud cannon fire. The park is at 9500 North Point Road, Dundalk. Parking will be available at the Fort Howard Veterans Hospital.
