Deal Of The Week

August 30, 2009|By Michelle Deal-Zimmerman

14- or 16-night Peter Deilmann cruise from Baltimore

What's the deal?: Peter Deilmann Cruises is bringing its luxury German liner the MS Deutschland to Baltimore, offering two fall cruises aboard the 520-passenger cruise ship known for its elegant style of the Edwardian and 1920s eras. The cruises are a 14-night round-trip exploration of the "Old South" or a 16-night cosmopolitan outing with stops in New York; Miami; New Orleans; Cozumel, Mexico, among others, and ending in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

On either cruise, guests can save $1,500 per person and also receive a $750 air allowance. For those doing a cruise only, the total discount of $2,250 can be applied.

What's the savings?: The discount is $2,250 per person, so that's pretty hefty, which means the fare is not lightweight. The reduced fares start at $3,943 for the 12-night sailing and $4,820 for 16 nights - that's about $300 a night for hotel, dining and entertainment for cruise-only. Of course, the 16-night cruise requires airfare from Jamaica.

What's the catch?: None that I can find. This cruise ship is for those who appreciate the "old style" of cruising.
