Maryland released a 2009-10 men's basketball schedule Tuesday. It contains lots of similarities - and one marked difference - with last season's.
Like last season, the Terps will ease into their nonconference schedule with a series of November games they will be expected to win.
Also like last season, Maryland gets tested in a rugged, pre-Christmas tournament.
Last season, it was the Old Spice Classic in Florida. The Terps upset Michigan State, a Top 10 team, before losing to Gonzaga and Georgetown.
This season, Maryland will play in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Terps open against Chaminade. The rest of the field includes Vanderbilt, Cincinnati (which features former Maryland recruit Lance Stephenson of Brooklyn, N.Y.), Arizona, Gonzaga and Wisconsin.
A key difference from last season is that Maryland does not play a home-and-home series with North Carolina. The Tar Heels visit Maryland on Feb. 7. But there is no return visit.
Maryland split with North Carolina last season. The Maryland win was its most memorable game of the season.
Maryland does play home-and-home series with Duke, Virginia, Clemson, Florida State and N.C. State.
