Saratoga: : Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird breezed five furlongs over the main track with Hall of Fame rider Kent Desormeaux up. The time for the move, seventh best of nine at the distance, was 1:00.91 over a muddy track. Trainer Tim Ice said the colt would walk for the next two days, return to the track to gallop Tuesday and Wednesday and have a quarter-mile tuneup Thursday for the Grade I, $1 million Shadwell Travers on Saturday.

D.C. United plays to 0-0 draw with Galaxy at RFK

David Beckham's return didn't result in any goals for the Los Angeles Galaxy as it played to a 0-0 draw with D.C. United. United (6-5-11) remained in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. D.C., 5-0-5 at RFK Stadium, also remained one of two teams without a home loss, along with Columbus. The Galaxy (8-4-11) is 4-0-2 in its past six road matches. Beckham was back on the field after serving a one-game suspension for a red card given Aug. 15 against Seattle.

Golf: : Kelly Miller and Steve Hudson shot 6-under-par 65 in the morning 18 for a 45-hole total of 165, and won the 19th annual Chesapeake Cup when rain forced a cancellation of the final nine holes at Caves Valley Golf Club. Marty West and Bob Morris won the senior division title with 95-67-162.
