Barbara Gunther, Social Security Worker

Barbara Gunther, a retired Social Security Administration information technology team leader and former longtime White Marsh resident, died of cancer Aug. 10 at her brother's home in Brunswick. She was 59.

Ms. Gunther was born in Baltimore and raised in O'Donnell Heights. She was a 1968 graduate of Patterson High school.

Ms. Gunther had worked at the SSA's headquarters in Woodlawn, analyzing and programming the agency's computers as a technology team leader, until retiring 21/2 years ago after being diagnosed with cancer.

Earlier, she had worked for Union Trust Co. and Signet Bank.

A world traveler, her favorite destinations were New York City, Europe and the Caribbean, family members said.

She was a former member of Luther Memorial Church in East Baltimore.

Ms. Gunther was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, First Avenue and A Street in Brunswick, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 29.

Surviving are her mother, Maude Gunther of Brunswick; a brother, Stanley Gunther of Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.
