August 19, 2009|By Edward Lee

KEEPING AN EYE ON KELLEY: : Wide receiver Kelley Washington has quickly become a fan favorite courtesy of his hands and exuberance. After he was on the receiving end of a 50-yard bomb from quarterback Joe Flacco, Washington pointed to the fans, who cheered vigorously. Washington also hung on to a pass from Flacco despite getting sandwiched by safeties Haruki Nakamura and Tom Zbikowski.

YELLOW FLAG WATCH: : After collecting 13 penalties in two practices, the Ravens committed just one penalty - a false start by left tackle Jared Gaither - Tuesday.

COLLISION OF THE DAY: : During a one-on-one blocking drill involving running backs and tight ends against linebackers, Jameel McClain steamrollered Edgar Jones.

DEFENDING THEIR TURF: : Free safety Ed Reed intercepted a pass from Troy Smith intended for wide receiver Ernie Wheelwright and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. Rookie linebacker William VanDeSteeg and cornerbacks Domonique Foxworth and Evan Oglesby also intercepted passes, and strong safety Dawan Landry and McClain each got a sack.

SAFETY MOVE OF THE DAY:: A lucky fan has tight end L.J. Smith to thank. After Smith caught a pass from Flacco in the right rear corner of the end zone, Smith had the presence of mind to leap over a thigh-high rope separating the fans from the practice field and hurdle over the fan sitting on the grass.

GETTING A LEG UP: : After missing three of five field-goal tries Monday, Steve Hauschka converted six of seven attempts, including clanging a 51-yarder off the crossbar and over. Rookie Graham Gano went 4-for-5 , sending his 51-yarder wide left.

INJURIES: : Wide receivers Mark Clayton (strained left hamstring), Demetrius Williams (right hamstring), Yamon Figurs (reason undisclosed) and Biren Ealy (groin), linebackers Terrell Suggs (strained left heel) and Dannell Ellerbe (right knee) and offensive tackle Stefan Rodgers (foot) did not practice. Cornerback Chris Carr (back spasms) and linebacker Prescott Burgess (left thigh) returned to practice.

OVERHEARD: : "He's pregnant." - Wide receiver Derrick Mason teasing fullback Le'Ron McClain, who was lying on the sideline after suffering abdominal cramps during practice. Mason was joined by running backs Ray Rice and Willis McGahee in mocking McClain.

TODAY'S SCHEDULE:: There is no morning practice today. The afternoon session begins at 2:45 p.m. and is scheduled to run about two hours.
