Columbia woman enters Alford plea to assault

A 39-year-old Columbia woman entered an Alford plea for second-degree assault Tuesday in Howard County Circuit Court. Michelle Denise Fox of the 7100 block of Talisman Lane will be sentenced Nov. 13. Fox had been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault in connection with the November 2008 stabbing of Chantise D. Berry one block from Fox's residence. Fox's daughter, Chezmin Suter, had a physical altercation with Berry near the Owen Brown Village Center about an hour before the alleged assault. Suter went home and returned with her mother, who allegedly stabbed Berry. By entering an Alford plea, Fox acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict but does not admit guilt.
