YELLOW FLAG WATCH: : Of the team's six penalties in the morning session, five were committed by the offense, including two illegal-formation calls. A flag was thrown when quarterback Troy Smith couldn't get the players lined up correctly.
DEFENDING THEIR TURF: : Linebacker Jason Phillips and defensive tackle Will Johnson each sacked Smith, and cornerback Frank Walker intercepted a pass from Smith intended for wide receiver Jayson Foster in a one-on-one drill.
THROW OF THE DAY: : Smith floated the football over a leaping Jameel McClain and into the hands of wide receiver Bradon Godfrey, who was promptly whacked by cornerback Domonique Foxworth.
HARPING ON HARPER: : Wide receiver Justin Harper got quite an earful from wide receivers coach Jim Hostler. After Harper didn't put forth the maximum effort needed during a one-on-one drill, Hostler barked, "If you don't want to listen to me, just tell me, man." Another exchange ended with Hostler's ordering Harper to walk away.
SCRAMBLING AROUND: : During a live, full-team drill, quarterback Joe Flacco evaded the pass rush and heaved a bomb to wide receiver Kelley Washington, who got behind the coverage and completed a 70-yard touchdown catch-and-run.
GETTING A LEG UP: : Steve Hauschka made just two of five field-goal tries in the morning. His 46-yarder went wide left, a 52-yarder went wide right, and a 58-yarder bounced off the crossbar. Rookie Graham Gano made all five of his attempts, including banking a 58-yarder off the left upright and over the crossbar.
INJURIES: : Linebackers Terrell Suggs (strained left heel) and Dannell Ellerbe (knee), wide receivers Mark Clayton (strained left hamstring) and Biren Ealy (groin), cornerback Chris Carr (back spasms) and offensive tackle Stefan Rodgers (right leg) did not practice. Wide receivers Demetrius Williams (right hamstring) and Yamon Figurs (reason undisclosed) were limited to individual drills in the morning and did not practice in the afternoon. Linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo participated in the morning session but was excused from afternoon practice as a member of the "Over-30 Club." Linebacker Prescott Burgess practiced in the morning despite a wrapped left thigh and did not take part in the afternoon session. Running back Willis McGahee and wide receiver Kelley Washington practiced in the morning, but not in the afternoon. Linebacker Jarret Johnson (back spasms) and quarterback John Beck (right shoulder) returned to practice after sitting out Sunday. Guard-center Chris Chester has his left elbow wrapped but continued to practice.
