Auditions workshop

Spaces are still available in the Children's Theatre of Annapolis' "Preparing for an Audition" workshops being held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at 1661 Bay Head Road in Annapolis. Workshops are for ages 12-18 and include tips on preparing for an audition, and the opportunity to do a mock audition and have it critiqued by a director. Students will also be guided on selecting and presenting a song, mental preparation, what a director would look for, how to prepare for a reading from a script and how to dress. Carnival in Edgewater

The annual "Backyard Carnival" will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the South County Senior Activity Center, 27 Stepney's Lane in Edgewater. Games, prizes, refreshments, a moon bounce and pony rides are among the scheduled activities. Event will be held rain or shine, admission is free. For more information, call 410-222-1927.

Senior Olympics

The Summer Maryland Senior Olympics will be held Saturday through Nov. 1 at various locations in the area.

Included in the sports events are swimming, track and field, archery, basketball, billiards, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, racquetball, softball, table tennis and volleyball. Events are scheduled in Boyds, Cambridge, Columbia, Eldersburg, Ellicott City, Gaithersburg, Landover, Laytonsville, Olney, Parkton, Rockville and Silver Spring.

Competition will be held in men's and women's divisions in these age groups: 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80-84; 90-94 and 95 plus. If participant numbers are insufficient, groups may be combined for competition purposes. Medals will be awarded within each division and age category for the top three finishers, with ribbons for fourth to sixth place.

Participation is open only to Maryland residents ages 50 and older who live, work or own property in Maryland.

Juried show submissions

The deadline for photograph submissions for the show "Local Lens: Images of South County and the Bay" at the Capt. Salem Avery Museum, 1418 E. West Shady Side Road, has been extended to Sept. 13. Photographs should focus on South County or the Chesapeake Bay, be at least 8 inches in one dimension, been taken this summer, and be framed or matted. Adults, children and professional photographers can submit up to three pictures. No fee. For details and entry forms, call 410-867-4486.
