MAPGA Professional Championship: : Rick Schuller of Swaders Sports Park in Chesterfield, Va., shot a 2-under par 70 to capture his second straight and fourth overall Maryland PGA Professional Championship at Woodmont Country Club (North Course) in Rockville. He finished 54 holes at 7-under-par to best 167 fellow PGA pros and take home $10,500. John Stone of Pines Golf Club had birdies at 15, 16 and 17 to finish second at 3-under. Dirk Schultz of Beaver Creek Country Club was third at 2-under. This event also serves as a qualifier for the PGA Professional National Championship. The top 12 finishers, plus past national champions Chip Sullivan and Wayne DeFrancesco advance from the Middle Atlantic PGA to the national championship.

AHL scoring star Giroux returning to Hershey in '09-10

Left wing Alexandre Giroux, who set a Hershey Bears franchise record in 2008-09 by scoring 60 goals in a season, signed a contract to return to the American Hockey League team in 2009-10. Giroux, 28, added 15 goals in 22 postseason games on the way to the club's 10th Calder Cup championship. The 75 goals are the most scored by a single AHL player in one regular season and postseason combined. Giroux also played in 12 games for the Washington Capitals in 2008-09, scoring one goal and assisting on another.

College football: : Mike Coyne, an offensive assistant with the Ravens in 2008, was named wide receivers coach at Colby College. Coyne, who was a wide receiver at Hereford and attended Kentucky, assisted head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron in advance scouting and breaking down film of opponents.

Bowling: : Martha Perez, a rising junior at UMES, won the All Events gold medal at the Colombian Nationals. She posted a high game of 298 and took a bronze medal in trio bowling, a silver in doubles and a gold in team play.
