Leroy Y. 'Roy' Haile Jr., Real Estate Broker

LeRoy Y. "Roy" Haile Jr., a longtime Towson insurance and real estate broker who was active in civic affairs, died July 30 of cancer at Gilchrist Hospice Care. He was 80.

Mr. Haile was born, raised and lived his entire life in the Providence Road home that his parents built and moved into in 1924.

After graduating from Towson High School in 1946, he earned a bachelor's degree four years later from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.

Mr. Haile enlisted in the Navy in 1950, and served most of his four-year hitch aboard the destroyer USS Vesole in the North Atlantic.

After his naval service, he joined in 1954 his father's real estate and insurance brokerage business, which the elder Mr. Haile had established in 1923 on Chesapeake Avenue.

He operated LeRoy Haile Jr. Real Estate Co. for the next 54 years until retiring after it was acquired by Coldwell Banker Grempler Realty Inc. in 1999.

His professional memberships included the Baltimore County Appraisers' Society and the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors.

A well-known figure in Towson, Mr. Haile had been a past president and board member of the Towson Business Association, had chaired the Towson Fourth of July Parade, and was a former president of the Baltimore County Historical Society.

He was a longtime member and former president of the Towson Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Haile enjoyed caring for the grounds around his home and walking in nearby woods.

He was a member of Towson United Methodist Church, 501 Hampton Lane, where a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Rena Felicity Fletcher; a son, LeRoy Y. Haile III of Towson; a daughter, Rachel Naomi Haile of Towson; a brother, Edmund F. Haile of Snow Hill; and four grandchildren.
