Police identify three victims in Monday crash in Lothian
2
Authorities identified Tuesday two people killed and a third seriously injured a day earlier when the car they were in ran off Route 4 near Upper Pindell Road in Lothian and crashed into trees. Katherine Marie Buta, 57, of the 6700 block of Bayberry Crossing in Owings and her brother, Douglas Donald Houglund, 67, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died at the scene, according to Anne Arundel County police. Buta's 19-year-old son, Bradley Wallace Buta, also of Scottsdale, Ariz., remained in serious condition at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, police said. Shortly before 6 p.m. Monday, Bradley Buta was driving his mother's 2003 Toyota Highlander south on Route 4 when it drifted to the right into a grassy area, struck a signpost, went down an embankment, overturned and crashed into trees, according to police. Police said the investigation is continuing.
FOR THE RECORD
A brief in Wednesday's editions identifying two people killed in a Lothian car crash incorrectly described the relationship between Katherine Marie Buta and Douglas Donald Houglund. They were cousins.

Moxley says he will not resign, despite DUI charge
Baltimore County Councilman Stephen G. Samuel Moxley, who was charged with driving under the influence last month, said Monday he has no intention of resigning. Moxley made his statement during a brief interview before Monday's County Council meeting. Moxley, who represents the district that includes Catonsville and Arbutus, was charged July 24 with driving under the influence after a four-car accident in West Baltimore. Since then, the four-term councilman has not returned phone calls from reporters or spoken publicly about the arrest, his second DUI charge in four years. Monday's council session was the first public meeting the councilman has attended since his arrest. Moxley, 50, declined to speak about the incident and made no additional comments.

Bicyclist killed by truck in Charles North; driver sought
3
A bicyclist in his late 60s was killed Tuesday morning in the city's Charles North neighborhood after he became entangled in the rear wheels of a white box truck, said a city police spokesman. Police, who said the truck driver left the scene and was probably unaware of the accident, are seeking the truck with unknown tags. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the truck was southbound on Maryland Avenue at 11:38 a.m. and was making a right turn onto West Lafayette Avenue when the biker, who was directly behind the truck, struck the truck's right rear wheels, became entangled in the wheels and suffered multiple injuries. Medics pronounced the man, whose name was being withheld pending notification of family members, dead at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call the city police accident investigation unit at 410-396-2606.
