Bayhawks' Hunt, Poillon earn MLL weekly honors

The Washington Bayhawks' Ben Hunt was named Major League Lacrosse's Offensive Player of the Week for Week 12, and teammate Peet Poillon (UMBC) was named Rookie of the Week. Hunt led the Bayhawks attack Saturday in a 17-16 overtime victory over the Chicago Machine, scoring five goals. In five games, Hunt has recorded eleven points including nine goals. He has scored at least one goal in every game of his MLL career, he is the first Bayhawk this season to earn Offensive Player of the Week recognition. Poillon made his MLL debut Saturday and scored the game's first goal. He finished with four goals.

Also: : Christina Dove of Bel Air, who is entering her senior season at Syracuse, was one of 24 players named to the 2009-10 U.S. Developmental Team by US Lacrosse. The team was announced after a two-day tryout at UMBC, which included 64 of the nation's top players.

UM's Nielsen, MacKeever make Academic All-ACC team

Two Maryland athletes were named to the 2009 Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference tennis teams. Senior Nickolai Nielsen of the men's team was selected for the third straight time, and junior Maggie MacKeever of the women's team was chosen for the second time.

More Maryland: : Meredith Eyler, a 1998 graduate of Bel Air High, was named an assistant swim coach for the Terps.

Mariners keep Annapolis' Justice as general manager

Greg Justice, an Annapolis resident, was retained as general manager of the Baltimore Mariners. The team finished 9-5 in 2009, his first season as GM, and earned its first playoff berth.
