RAVENS NOTEBOOK

Cornerback Frank Walker and wide receiver Kelley Washington, two of the more lively personalities on the team, engaged in a verbal exchange during a one-on-one passing drill in the red zone yesterday. After Walker broke up quarterback Joe Flacco's alley-oop to Washington in the rear left corner of the end zone, Walker and Washington went face mask-to-face mask and jawed at each other for several seconds before going their separate ways.

Afterward, Walker said he specifically selected Washington to match up against. "He was telling everybody to come press him, and then when we get up to press him he bags up," said Walker, who was greeted by Domonique Foxworth, and both danced and celebrated Walker's play. "So that kind of defeated the purpose of what he was saying, but it was just a little camaraderie between the boys, basically a little motivation. May the best man win, and let's play well."

Washington acknowledged calling out the cornerbacks ("I tell them all to get in my face because I want to challenge all of them," he said), but agreed that there was no bad blood.

"It's just a competition," Washington said. "There are no egos."

Harbaugh clarified the team's wearing camouflage hats with the word "SURGE" on the front, which is a tribute to the efforts of U.S. troops in Iraq and the Middle East. "This is just a little token of our appreciation," he said. "You'll see our players wearing it around. The Ravens sure appreciate what's going on over there." ... With Grubbs on the sideline, Chris Chester manned Grubbs' spot at left guard, and Marshal Yanda lined up at right guard.
