'Rachel' pleases trainer in last N.Y. workout before Haskell

Preakness-winning filly Rachel Alexandra went through a final workout at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., before taking on the boys in Sunday's Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J. The 3-year-old filly breezed a half mile in 49.26 seconds, the sixth fastest of 23 workouts Monday. The filly owned by Jess Jackson and Harold McCormick will be vanned to Monmouth on Thursday or Friday. "She seems to be doing extremely well," trainer Steve Asmussen said. "We want everything to go well, and we expect it to. We have a tall task for her this week. We want to show the respect that we think it deserves. We're excited about the opportunity." The 1 1/8-mile Haskell will also feature Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird, who had his final tuneup Sunday at Monmouth. The 3-year-old colt covered five-eighths of a mile in 1:01.80.

Men's college lacrosse: : Jon Torpey, a former assistant coach at Goucher who spent the past four seasons as an associate coach at Denver, was named the top assistant at Dartmouth.

NBA: : Former Washington Wizards center Etan Thomas was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves with two 2010 second-round draft choices to the Oklahoma City Thunder for point guard Chucky Atkins and guard Damien Wilkins. The Wizards dealt Thomas, a Tulsa, Okla., native, to Minnesota last month.

Baseball: : Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards will host a program with longtime Boston Red Sox announcer Joe Castiglione on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Castiglione will discuss his career and the 2009 season and will participarte in a question-and-answer session. The event is free with regular paid admission to the museum.
