Bays under-15 boys top Ariz. team to win national title

The Baltimore Bays earned their fifth national title in the past four years when the under-15 boys beat the Sereno Soccer Club of Arizona, 2-0, in the U.S. Youth Soccer national championship Saturday in Lancaster, Pa. Mike Gamble, assisted by Christian Wolff, and Malcolm Harris scored for the Bays. It was the youth organization's seventh national championship overall. The under-19 boys seek an eighth title today when they play NASA Elite from Georgia. The under-19 Bays have already won two championships (under-16 and under-18). The Bays played NASA to a scoreless tie in the first round of the national finals last weekend.

Cha, Hogg make Baltimore Municipal match-play final

Steve Cha squeezed out a win and Serge Hogg had an easier time in the semifinals of the 12th annual match-play championship of the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation at Pine Ridge Golf Course. The two worked through two rounds to advance to today's 8 a.m. final, scheduled for 18 holes at Mount Pleasant GC. Cha, a first-time finalist in the event, defeated Alex Church in the morning, 3 & 2, then went ahead at the 17th and held on against Andy Peet, 1 up, while Hogg, a finalist a year ago, was never seriously challenged in beating two-time champion Lance Bajkowski and first-time entrant Kevin Carmen, 3 & 2.
