Police in Baltimore County said Thursday that they were investigating two separate shootings, each of which resulted in injuries to two young men.
Both incidents took place Wednesday evening. In the first, police were summoned to the 3700 block of White Pine Road in Essex after gunfire was heard in the area. Officers found two men, one of them 22 years old, the other 23, both of whom had been shot, according to Cpl. Michael Hill, a spokesman for the Baltimore County Police Department.
The younger man was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with a wound that Hill said was not life-threatening. The older man was released from Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center after treatment and was arrested, said Hill, who expected the man to be charged in relation to the shooting. Neither man was identified.
Detectives told Hill that the two men met on White Pine Road to conduct a drug transaction. During the transaction, the spokesman said, both men produced handguns and shot each other.
The second incident was reported to police at 9:49 p.m., less than half an hour after the first. The report said shots had been fired in the area of Lord Baltimore Drive and Barkley Woods in Woodlawn. Officers found two 18-year-old men with gunshot wounds, Hill said.
One of the men was taken to Shock Trauma, where he remained Thursday in good condition. The other man was treated at Sinai Hospital and released.
The pair told police they were walking with two friends when they were approached by two suspects. Hill said a confrontation ensued and one of the suspects produced a handgun and fired several shots, striking the two victims. Police know of no motive or suspects in the shootings.
