Terps' game at Indiana will be shown on ESPN2

Maryland's matchup at Indiana in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge will be telecast live on ESPN2. The Terps and Hoosiers will play Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m., followed on the same network by Virginia Tech at Iowa. The rematch of the 2009 NCAA national championship between Michigan State and North Carolina will be broadcast at 9 p.m. that night on ESPN.

Bassler birdies last hole, edges Martin at Md. Open

Matt Bassler made a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th green to cement a victory in the Maryland Open at Hillendale Country Club. Bassler, from Catonsville and Rolling Road Golf Club, finished with a par 71 for a 54-hole total of 210. He had started one stroke behind co-leaders Brent Martin and Gary Mankulish, and Martin, from La Plata and Breton Bay CC, was in position for a 10-foot birdie putt to tie if Bassler had missed. Martin finished at 74-212, and Mankulish, an assistant pro at Lakewood CC, 77-215. Bassler, who also earned the Harry Pitt Trophy for low amateur, is the grandnephew of Charles Bassler, a six-time winner of this tournament.

WNBA: : Becky Hammon scored 21 points to help the San Antonio Silver Stars hold off the host Washington Mystics, 79-78. The Silver Stars (6-6) nearly blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead. Lindsey Harding scored 18 points and Alana Beard 17 for the Mystics (6-6), who have lost five of seven. Crystal Langhorne (Maryland) had 10 points and six rebounds for Washington; fellow former Terp Marissa Coleman was held to two points. ... Former Terp Kristi Toliver had 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting in the Chicago Sky's 84-74 loss to the host Indiana Fever, which has won 10 straight.

Major League Soccer: : D.C. United acquired midfielder Danny Szetela via its No. 2 allocation ranking. Szetela, 22, who has earned three caps with the U.S. national team, spent two-plus years in Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie B. ... CD Luis Angel Firpo of El Salvador will replace Chalatenango as United's opponent in the preliminary round of the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League. The first match will be July 28 at 8 p.m. at RFK Stadium; Firpo will host the return leg on Aug. 4.

Women's Professional Soccer: : Cat Whitehill scored unassisted off a scrum in the 92nd minute to enable the visiting Washington Freedom (4-6-5) to tie Sky Blue FC, 4-4, in the highest-scoring game in WPS history.
