'Rachel' assigned top weight for Sunday's Delaware 'Cap

Rachel Alexandra has been assigned top weight of 123 pounds for the 72nd running of the 1 1/4-mile, $1 million Grade II Delaware Handicap to be run Sunday at Delaware Park. The 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia d' Oro is 6-for-6 this year, including victories in the Preakness, Kentucky Oaks and Mother Goose Stakes. Acoma, the recent winner of the Grade III Mint Julep Stakes, and Unbridled Belle, the winner of the Grade II Delaware Handicap in 2007, have both been assigned 119 pounds.

Toliver's career-high 22 help Sky end Storm's home streak

Candace Dupree had 28 points and rookie Kristi Toliver (Maryland) added a career-high 22 to lead the Chicago Sky to an 86-81 victory over Seattle on Sunday night, ending the Storm's 16-game home-winning streak. Dupree made a three-pointer with 1:16 left to give the Sky an 82-79 lead. Chicago (7-7) had lost four straight games.

Navy's Meyer of Bethesda wins relay events at nationals

Navy's Adam Meyer (Bethesda) teamed with the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club to win a pair of relay events at the U.S. nationals last week in Indianapolis. Meyer swam the anchor leg on the team that won the 400 freestyle relay by nearly seven seconds with a winning time of 3 minutes, 22.34 seconds. He anchored the 800 freestyle relay team, which won by six seconds in 7:39.47. In individual events, Meyer placed second in the B final, 10th overall in the 200 butterfly and won the C final to finish 17th in the 200 individual medley. Meyer was one of four Mids competing. Adam's younger brother, Mark Meyer, a rising junior at Navy, placed sixth in the C final and 22nd overall in the 200 IM. Rising junior Erik Hunter placed 40th in the 400 IM and 57th in the 400 freestyle, and rising senior Thuy-Mi Dinh finished in 74th place in the 50 freestyle.

Walker overcomes Aichroth, wins Ladies Publinx in playoff

Leslie Walker defeated Diane Aichroth on the fourth playoff hole to win the annual Ladies Publinx championship, sponsored and conducted by the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation, at Forest Park Golf Course. The two had tied at 42-39-81 in regulation play. A year ago, they had tied at 82 in the championship flight, Aichroth winning on the second extra hole.

College lacrosse

Maryland's Reese named top coach in South Region

Maryland women's coach Cathy Reese has been selected as the IWLCA South Region Coach of the Year. Reese, an Ellicott City native and Terps alum, led Maryland to a 21-1 record. Former Maryland standout Kelly Amonte Hiller, who led Northwestern to its fifth straight national title in the 2009, was named IWLCA National Coach of the Year.
