Two men shot, one fatally, in Northwest Baltimore

A man was fatally shot in the head Wednesday afternoon in Northwest Baltimore, according to city police. The man was pronounced dead about 1:20 p.m. at the scene of the shooting in the 3900 block of Fairfax Road, police said. About an hour earlier, a 42-year-old man was shot in the upper torso and knee in the 3800 block of Ayrdale Ave., police said. He was taken to an area hospital after staggering to a Walgreens drugstore in the 3800 block of Liberty Heights Ave., according to police. No arrests have been made in the shootings.

Man charged with driving under influence in accident

Howard County police charged a 28-year-old Ellicott City man with driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance after his vehicle crossed a double yellow line, jumped the curb and struck a 62-year-old Columbia woman and her dog Wednesday. The woman, Irene Gearratono, of the 4200 block of Red Bandanna Way, was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was listed in good condition. The dog, a 7-year-old male Labrador named Marley, was taken to a local animal hospital, where he was in good condition. The driver, identified by police as Joel Mann of the 3400 block of Plum Tree Drive, was not injured. The accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. as Gearratono was walking her dog on the sidewalk of Grey Rock Drive and Red Bandanna Way. Mann's Honda Civic was traveling west on Grey Rock Drive when he lost control of the vehicle, police said. Police are continuing to investigate.

Aberdeen police seek two in fatal shooting July 4

Aberdeen police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting July 4 and are seeking two suspects in the case. Timothy Avery Weatherly, 25, of the Bronx, N.Y., was found fatally shot about 3 a.m. in a Pritchard Avenue apartment. Arrest warrants have been issued for brothers Michael Barber, 18, and Sanford T. Barber, 21, also both of the Bronx, police said. They were last seen in a black Audi with New York tags ERV5831, police said. Sgt. Frederick Budnick said police are investigating the men's ties to Maryland. They are thought to have acquaintances in Aberdeen. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call 410-272-2121.
