Westminster man, mother arrested after police chase

State Police say a Westminster man and his mother were arrested after the man led police on a chase in Carroll County. It began about 6:30 a.m. Monday in the 2700 block of Murke Road in Westminster, where troopers had gone to apprehend 28-year-old Randy Brown Jr. on outstanding warrants. Troopers say Brown's mother, Laura Mathis, also of Westminster, created a distraction and Brown fled the scene in a car. After leading police on a chase, Brown crashed into a tree and was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Brown is charged with fleeing and eluding, assault and reckless endangerment. Mathis is charged with obstruction and hindering.
