Play It Again

HIS TIME

Orioles rookie right-hander David Hernandez (2-2) justified his spot in the rotation Friday, holding the Los Angeles Angels to three runs in 6 2/3 innings in his second career victory. Hernandez surrendered six hits and walked two before Jim Johnson and George Sherrill got the final seven outs.

HUFF DADDY DELIVERS

The Orioles' top four hitters went a combined 1-for-16 in Thursday's series-opening loss, but they certainly were heard from Friday. Aubrey Huff slammed a three-run homer off Angels starter Ervin Santana in the third inning, Nick Markakis went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Adam Jones reached base three times and scored two runs, and Brian Roberts got a hit and scored an important insurance run to end a 2-for-29 slide.

ON DECK

The Orioles close out the four-game set at 3:35 p.m. today as struggling left-hander Rich Hill (3-2, 7.08 ERA) opposes Angels southpaw Joe Saunders (8-5, 4.24). Hill has failed to make it through five innings in five of his past seven starts. Saunders, an All-Star last year, is 5-0 with a 4.15 ERA in six career starts against the Orioles.
