* ( 1 STAR)

Running time: 137 minutes

What it's about: The good-guy robot aliens, the Autobots, team up with a gutsy U.S. military unit - and Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf - to bring down the bad-guy robot aliens, the Decepticons.

Our take: The whirl, bang and general bother of crashing gears and gnashing metals end up suffocating the senses .

The Proposal

1 week

Rated: PG-13

Running time: 107 minutes

What it's about: Sandra Bullock (above), a high-powered, Canadian-born book editor, discovers that she must marry her Alaskan-born assistant (Ryan Reynolds) or be deported.

Our take: The movie never gives any reason to buy the conceit that these two careerists grow to share love.

3 weeks

Rated: R

Running time: 100 minutes

What it's about: A group of friends (including Zach Galifianakis, above) struggle to piece together what happened after an out-of-control Vegas bachelor party.

Our take: This relentlessly jocular movie is designed to deliver lower-belly laughs with sleek contemporary efficiency.

**** ( 4 STARS)

$250.2 million

4 weeks

Rated: PG

Running time: 96 minutes

What it's about: A 78-year-old widower (above), in honor of his late wife, sets off on a grand adventure with a youthful stowaway.

Our take: The latest Pixar animated feature goes where no cartoon has ever gone before - and takes a satisfied audience along with it.

My Sister's Keeper

** ( 2 STARS)

$12.4 million

1 week

Rated: PG-13

Running time: 109 minutes

What it's about: An 11-year-old girl (Abigail Breslin), a perfect genetic match for her leukemia-stricken sister (Sofia Vassilieva), tires of being treated like an automatic organ donor.

Our take: It's a bit like a real-world horror movie with "heart," right down to the trick ending.
