Convicted sex offender turns self in to police

A convicted sex offender turned himself in to Anne Arundel County authorities Tuesday after learning that he was wanted by police for not living at the address he gave to the state's sex offender registry, police said. David Leroy McGhee, 58, arranged to meet deputies at the District Court building in Annapolis after learning through a relative that police were looking for him, Deputy Sheriff Harry L. Neisser said. McGhee's last known address was on Old Mill Bottom Road in Annapolis, police said. After finding out he was being sought by police, McGhee called deputies, met them at the courthouse and was arrested without a problem, said Neisser, who added that McGhee had apparently been living out of his car. McGhee was being held at the county jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to court records.

The fire was reported minutes later. The man's death was labeled "suspicious." Fire officials said the body was found on a burning couch. The cause of death was not immediately known.
