Stephen Schatz, Assistant Facilities Director

Stephen M. Schatz, assistant director of facilities at the University of Maryland, died of a coronary embolism June 8 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. The Millersville resident was 48.

Mr. Schatz was born in Baltimore and raised in Glen Burnie. He was a 1979 graduate of then-Martin Spalding High School and earned a bachelor's degree in geography in 1983 from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

For the past decade, he was assistant director of facilities at the University of Maryland's College Park campus. Earlier, he had worked as director of operations for the Baltimore City Life Museums.

Mr. Schatz was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed fishing and traveling.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church in Millersville, where a Mass of Christian burial was offered June 12.

Surviving are his wife of nine years, the former Evelyn Hoban; a son, Joseph Mark Hoban Schatz; his parents, Mark and Ann Schatz of Glen Burnie; and a sister, Barbara Schatz of Baltimore.
