Retirements and professional development were cited as a cause for more than 30 promotions and transfers that were unveiled at Thursday's school board meeting.
The administrative promotions, which were unanimously approved by the school board, and the transfers, which did not require a vote, are effective July 1.
"We try to provide administrators with a couple of different assignments every couple of years for them to develop their leadership skills," said Patti Caplan, school system spokeswoman. "Different schools require different approaches. It gives them the opportunity to work with different staff and different communities. It expands the breath of their experience."
The board approved the following administrative promotions:
* Molly Ketterer, from assistant principal at Longfellow Elementary to principal at Swansfield Elementary;
* David Adelman from assistant principal at Deep Run Elementary to principal at Ilchester Elementary;
* Vicky Sarro from assistant principal at St. John's Lane Elementary to principal at St. John's Lane Elementary;
* Carol Hahn from assistant principal at Manor Woods Elementary to principal at West Friendship Elementary;
* Laurel Marsh from math support teacher at Swansfield Elementary to assistant principal at Longfellow Elementary;
* Nancy Richardson from leadership intern at Bellows Spring Elementary to assistant principal at Manor Woods Elementary;
* Anthony Esposito from third-grade team leader at Longfellow Elementary to assistant principal at Elkridge Elementary;
* Julie Moraz from second-grade team leader at Rockburn Elementary to assistant principal at Deep Run Elementary;
* Gina Stokes from assistant principal at Elkridge Landing Middle to principal at Elkridge Landing Middle;
* Melissa Shindel from assistant principal at Patuxent Valley Middle to principal at Clarksville Middle;
* Carol Ketterman from special education teacher at Patapsco Middle to assistant principal at Patapsco Middle;
* Josh Wasilewski from health teacher at Mayfield Woods Middle to assistant principal at Patuxent Valley Middle;
* Lisa Smith from leadership intern at Dunloggin Middle to assistant principal at Dunloggin Middle.
In addition, Deputy Superintendent Sandra Erickson announced the following administrative transfers:
* Debbie Jagoda from principal at St. John's Lane Elementary to principal at Bushy Park Elementary;
