Man critically injured in Carroll home invasion

A man was critically injured early Thursday in a Carroll County home invasion, Maryland State Police said. The incident happened in the 2600 block of Liberty Road in New Windsor about 4:30 a.m., police spokeswoman Elena Russo said. State police believe this was not a random crime, she said. Russo said three men entered the residence and ordered two men believed to be tenants to the first floor. One victim suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head; the other victim escaped and called 911 from a neighbor's home, police said. The injured man, who also called 911, was taken by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and is in critical condition, Russo said. The second man refused medical attention. Police are looking for the three assailants. Police urge anyone with information to call the Westminster barracks at 410-386-3000.

Laurel man sentenced on child porn charge

A registered sex offender was sentenced Thursday to a decade in federal prison for possession of more than 600 images of child pornography, the Maryland U.S. attorney's office announced. In 2001, Seng Foon Yeow, 61, pleaded guilty in a Florida federal court to possessing child pornography and traveling across state lines to engage in sex with a minor. According to his new plea agreement, Yeow was downloading child pornography to his computer at his home on Whiskey Run in Laurel. The downloading was discovered by Interpol, which alerted the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Cyber Crimes Center.
