The Only Thing Missing Will Be Bob Dylan Himself

June 18, 2009|By Chris Kaltenbach , chris.kaltenbach@baltsun.com

Mark Brine, who grounds his music in the root sources of American country, plans to perform "Boots of Spanish Leather," "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "To Ramona."

"I like his folkie stuff the best," Brine says. "Don't get me wrong, it's all great. But you always like what you hear first."

Himes himself will be singing "Just Like a Woman," "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry" and "Song for Woody," accompanied by Randy Austin on guitar and himself on piano. Audiences might not always recognize the tunes. Dylan himself rarely performs a song the same way twice, and Himes and other performers will be free to put their own spin on the master's work.

"His songs can work in any number of arrangements," Himes says. "You'll see a lot of songs played a lot of different ways."

Even better, he promises, "They'll all work."
