Cycling: : Olympic champion Tyler Hamilton, 38, received an eight-year ban, all but ending his drug-tainted career after he admitted to taking a steroid. The penalty handed down by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency came two months after Hamilton acknowledged taking an herbal product to combat depression, knowing it included a steroid.

NBA: : Television ratings for the Finals are down from last year. The five games on ABC between the Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic averaged an 8.4 rating. That's down close to 10 percent from last season's 9.3 for the six-game Lakers-Celtics series.

WNBA: : Jia Perkins scored 25 points, including 11 in host Chicago's fourth-quarter comeback, as the Sky beat the Connecticut Sun, 78-75. Kristi Toliver (Maryland) had five points and four assists in 14 minutes for the Sky.

Golf: : Michelle Wie failed to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open. Wie, 19, shot a 74 in the second round of qualifying Monday at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville and missed by one shot. She has played in the U.S. Women's Open every year since she was 13.

Tennis: : French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova lost in the first round of the WTA grass-court tournament in Eastbourne, England, falling, 6-0, 6-3, to Aleksandra Wozniack.

Youth football: : Former Kansas City Chiefs executive Carl Peterson is the new chairman of USA Football, the national governing body. He replaces the late Jack Kemp.
