Sister Donald Ignatius, School Principal

Sister Donald Ignatius Schisler, a retired Towson Catholic High School principal, died of cardio-vascular disease June 1 at her order's retirement home in Aston, Pa. She was 94.

Born Gladys Schisler in Latrobe, Pa., and raised on East Eager Street in Baltimore, she was a 1933 Seton High School graduate.

She entered the Franciscan Sisters of Philadelphia and received the name Donald Ignatius. She earned an English degree from Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg and a master's degree from St. Mary College in Xavier, Kansas. She taught on both elementary and secondary levels and received four National Science Foundation grants in physics and chemistry.

She began teaching at Towson Catholic High School in 1941, where she was also a principal. She also taught at the Catholic High School of Baltimore and at Immaculate Conception Parochial School in Towson.

She also held posts in Lansdale, Pa.; Washington, D.C.; Chickasha, Okla., and Wilmington, Del.

In her leisure time, Sister Donald enjoyed reading, making crafts, listening to music and doing puzzles.

She retired in 1997.

A Mass was offered Friday.

Survivors include a brother, Louis Schisler of Levittown, Pa, and nieces and nephews.
