BOYS LACROSSE
Player of the Year
Jason Gonos
St. Mary's
A three-year starter and first-team All-Metro selection, Gonos led the No. 3 Saints (15-2) to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference semifinals with consistently fine play on defense. The senior captain played with smarts, skills, toughness and athleticism in helping the team limit opponents to fewer than seven goals a game this season. Gonos, also a member of the Saints' B Conference champion football team, will play lacrosse at Harvard next year.
Coach of the Year
Paul Noone
South River
The second-year coach immediately recognized the chemistry his senior-laden group showed from the beginning and kept them on course to capture the program's first Class 4A state championship. The Seahawks also won the county championship and ended a 17-game losing streak during the regular season to rival Severna Park with a 7-6 victory. Noone, who had coached the junior varsity for three seasons, made sure his Seahawks avoided a letdown by beating the Falcons a second time to win the East region on their way to a 11-6 win over Urbana for the state crown.
