C arl Yowell of Baltimore asks: "In today's Sun ... the forecast is 'Rain 80%, Forecast: occasional rain.' What exactly does that mean? Eighty percent of the state will get occasional rain? Or an 80 percent chance of the forecast being correct?" A perennial question. It means that 8 out of 10 times in the past, when conditions were identical, the forecast area had intermittent rain.
